LG Smart TV Marking
The ability to read the information encrypted in the marking is a way to quickly navigate in the selection and learn information about the new product. LG immodest begin marking all their TVs with the brand name.
Diagonal size and screen type
Immediately after the name, two numbers follow, indicating the size of the diagonal in inches. Then the type of screen is indicated. Now LG LCD TVs are labeled as:
- L – LCD screen with LED backlight;
- U – used to refer to LCD screens with LED backlight and ultra-high resolution (UHD);
- S is short for Super UHD, for LCD screens with Nano Cell technology.
The letters C (fluorescent lighting) and P (plasma screen) can not be found in the names of models, TVs with these technologies are discontinued.
But the S marking appeared only in 2017 – the already mentioned Nano Cell technology says that an improved matrix is installed on the TV, where the light-emitting particles, not exceeding 1 nanometer, are used for the backlight. Such LCD TVs in image quality can compete with OLED.
OLED models have different markings:
- E – TV with OLED-screen (until 2016);
- OLED – with a screen on organic light-emitting diodes (since 2016).
Year of issue
The next letter indicates the year of production of the TV:
- F or G – 2015 year (F is used for flat screens, G for curved);
- H – 2016;
- J – 2017;
- K – 2018;

For the 2019 model year TVs, the letter L is logically “prepared”.
Unlike the main competitor, LG mark the year of manufacture of a specific device, and not the first model in the line.
And again there are subtleties in the labeling of OLED TV. Instead of letters, one number is indicated: 6 for 2016, 7 – for 2017, well, and for 2018, respectively, the number 8 is assigned.
